Most damaged-in-transit claims trace back to one thing: inconsistent containment. When pallets are hand-wrapped, tension and wrap pattern vary load to load, and the loose ones shift or collapse over the road. The cheapest, most reliable fix is a machine that applies the same containment force and wrap pattern every time, including proper base and top wraps. For heavy or unstable loads, a rotary-arm wrapper adds stability the hand-wrap can't match.
A damage claim is expensive in more ways than the credit. There's the replacement product, the freight, the paperwork, the customer's confidence, and sometimes a rejected load that comes all the way back. Operations chase these costs in a lot of places, better boxes, more dunnage, careful stacking, and often skip the single cheapest lever: how consistently the load is contained before it leaves the dock.
A pallet in a trailer is under constant stress, vibration, braking, cornering, and the shove of loads around it. What keeps it intact isn't the amount of film on it; it's containment force: the film holding the whole stack together as one unit and tying it down to the pallet. When containment is right, the load moves as a block. When it's weak or uneven, the top layers walk, the load leans, and eventually something topples.
The problem with hand-wrapping isn't that it always fails, it's that it fails unpredictably. Some loads go out beautifully. Others, wrapped by a different person or the same person at hour eight, go out loose. You can't see the difference on the dock, but the trailer finds it. That variability is why claims cluster seemingly at random: it's not random, it's inconsistent containment.
You don't prevent damage by putting more film on a pallet. You prevent it by putting the right containment on every pallet, the same way, every time.
A stretch wrap machine applies a programmed, repeatable wrap: consistent containment force, set numbers of base and top wraps, and even coverage, on every load, regardless of who's running it or what hour it is. Nothing spins, so unstable pallets aren't disturbed during wrapping, and you can apply firm containment to loads a turntable would risk toppling. It's the machine specifically suited to the loads that generate the most claims.
